Driving Financial Accuracy and Efficiency: Meet Mat Hennings

September 5, 2019 | CEC News

Mat Hennings has a unique perspective on the role of an organization’s financial team. Instead of simply managing financial actions, he envisions finance professionals serving as partners to leadership teams, helping them drive sound financial results and ensuring that their financial path is helping them meet their goals.

We’re excited that Mat recently accepted our invitation to serve as CEC’s vice president of finance! His expertise and insight will help us reach our vision: to become the most recommended technology solutions provider around.

He brings with him a solid background in financial reporting and analysis, with a focus on Lean principles and continuous improvement. Prior to joining CEC, Mat worked his way up at the most well-known provider for the global aerospace and defense industry; he had financial responsibility for a $1 billion annual revenue business portfolio. He’s also served in financial roles for a private-equity firm and national packaging manufacturer.

Now he’s ready to do great things at CEC! As he refines our financial processes and decision-making, we wanted to help you get to know him a little better. Meet Mat Hennings!

Q: What makes you most excited about working at CEC?
A: The people and culture were the biggest draws for me. I’m excited about being part of a company that cares about customer experiences and is dedicated to doing the right thing. Integrity is a big deal to me!

Q: Which CEC initiative can you not wait to tackle?
A: CEC has been growing over the past three to five years, taking a hard look at how the company is structured to best fit the needs of customers. I’m excited to dig into the accounting and finance processes to determine whether there are areas where accuracy and efficiency can be improved even further.

My goal is for the financial team to become a true advisor and partner to CEC to drive topline growth.

Q: What’s a fun/interesting fact about you that most people don't know?
A: I enjoy a set of family cabins in Harpers Ferry, IA (on the Mississippi River), doing water sports, boating, and fishing almost every weekend when the weather is nice. I’ve been visiting this area since I was born. It started way back with my great-grandparents, who owned a cabin in this same location.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: When we’re not on the Mississippi River, I enjoy time with the family (my wife, three-year-old son, and nine-month-old daughter). I also golf and watch Hawkeye sports, Cubs baseball, and Carolina Panthers football.
