Making IT Work for Our Customers: Meet Steve Foley

Sept. 22, 2020

When he first joined CEC as a systems engineer in 2010, Steve Foley already had well over a decade of IT experience and consulting under his belt. After becoming part of our team, he quickly grew into a trusted resource for implementing and supporting server virtualization, storage, and backup/recovery/business continuity solutions for customers in all markets.

Five years ago, he became an IT pre-sales systems engineer to help customers select the best solutions and services for their situations; he’s involved with our clients’ IT projects from start to finish.

Foley also works side by side with CEC’s engineers, technical advisors, and IT partners to assist with identifying and creating IT-related solutions. Need a virtualization, storage, backup/recovery, or hyperconverged solution? He’ll help make it happen! He understands the solutions we design, manage, and deploy, including technology from Scale Computing, Unitrends, Sophos, VMware, and Office 365.

Meet CEC IT Pre-Sales Systems Engineer Steve Foley!

Q: What makes you most excited about working at CEC? What do you enjoy most about what you're doing right now?
A: I enjoy being able to provide objective technical information and recommendations to our customers. I get to work with a variety of cutting-edge technologies and a great group of very smart people.

Q: Is there a CEC initiative you’ve been involved with that you’re especially proud of?
A: I was involved with CEC’s server environment as we transformed it from mostly physical servers to a traditional virtual environment that consists of physical hosts and multiple SANs … and then again to our current hyperconverged environment that combines storage, computing, and virtualization into a single system to reduce complexity and increase scalability.

Q: How does a typical day play out for you at CEC? What are you responsible for?
A: I like the variety of my position: working with our partners to keep our technical advisors informed about solutions or new features, discussing technical solutions with customers, working on proposals, and keeping up to date on the variety of solutions CEC offers. No day is exactly like the previous one.

Q: How do you spend your free time?
A: I spend my free time playing the best game ever invented: golf! I also enjoy spending time with my wife, Bridget, and our 13-year-old daughter, Ella. We like kayaking, biking, hiking, and pretty much anything outdoors.

Q: If you could do one other job at CEC for a day, what would it be?
A: If I could do another job for a day, I think I’d like to be an installer, whether it’s installing cabling or physically installing equipment. All of CEC’s solutions – even wireless – need cable and connectivity; that’s where the magic starts.
